So, I found out last Monday Josh had a double ear infection. I had no clue. What horrible mom would let her child walk around sick like that? It was his 18-month well-check when the dr discovered this. Then Wednesday Emma came down with a nasty cold. I knew I would probably get it because the way my immune system has been the past few years, I haven't been able to avoid most things that come my way like that. Thursday I started feeling it. Friday and Saturday were bad. Sunday I was pretty congested still but most of the achy and light-headed part of the cold was gone. So I didn't exercise for 5 days straight. It has been over 7 months since I've gone that long without exercise and I felt it this morning, my first workout since my hiatus. I ran 2 miles and they were the worst 2 miles. I felt like I couldn't get enough air and my chest was heavy. I wanted to go 3 but knew there was no way that was going to happen. I jumped off the treadmill and did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I burned about 500 calories so not great but decent for the state I was in. I just kept reminding myself "It can only go up from here." I have 2 1/2 months, 75 days to be exact, until my half marathon. Hopefully there will be no more set-backs and I can keep pushing.
At the gym this morning I had to hold myself back from throwing up. This guy running on the treadmill in front of me had a pretty good pace and went for nearly an hour. I noticed about halfway into his run he was sweating very badly. 10 minutes later I saw sweat pooling on both sides of his treadmill (and landing on the two treadmills next to him.) He had a towel and I only saw him use it once. Sick! The worst part is after he was finished, he didn't even wipe it down. He left the sweat and walked away. Didn't spray it with the disinfectant. Nasty. I felt bad for the lady who jumped on after he left. YUCK!

wow, that's really disgusting. Good for you for getting up and working out even though you feel like crap. 500 calories is nothing to scoff at. I borrowed a ton of tae bo tapes from my friend along with her strengthening bands. I'm going to switch off between running and tae bo and see how I feel. I'm hopign to have a rocking body by April....we'll see
That is really gross. And I think you are doing amazing after having been so sick. I am having to take a potty training break from working out because Abbie is requiring some, um.. focus..
Also I want you to know that I love coming to your blog just to know that there are other wonderful active members of the church who voted for Obama and think he could do a good job. I have several friends who are active Republicans and I just can't talk to them about politics. Not that I talk to you either. It is just nice knowing you are here. (Sorry so rambly, needed to vent.)
I hope that you feel better soon! That is gross about the nasty guy on the treadmill. Eeeewwww!! I'm signed up to run the Provo 1/2 on Apr. 4 I can't do the SL 1/2 because we are going to Louisiana for Spring Break. I am doing good though. Trying to do 4 miles a day but know I need to push much harder to make it! Scary!!!
on one hand, i sympathize with the sweaty guy. Only last year when i started my own treadmill exercises did i really begin to understand my own capicity for sweating. After a couple of my runs I looked like a had just climbed out of the pool after jumping in with my running clothes on.
however, those with overeactive sweatglands (like myself and mister sprinkler-pits) need to have a bit more social awareness and take responsibility for our drippings. For shame mister sprinkler-pits... for SHAME!
i feel i need to clarify something i stated above... Though i do sweat quite profusely when exercising, i do not have the same disorder as the thoughtless gland-spewer described in this blog post. I do not have the same sweat propulsion issue... merely an over abundance of bodily fluids seeping from my pores.
Glad you clarified that. Those of us who know you were beginning to think you are a real freak. ;)
Thanks for the comment about the shoes. You were the one last summer who suggested I buy new shoes when I was having knee problems. Lo and behold, that did the trick. They were Brooks, just too old. My new pair fixed my problem. Look at you, Mr. All-Knowing-Runner. Very impressive. How is your training coming for Hood to Coast?
