Only 10 more days left!

There are only 10 days left to register for the Salt Lake City Marathon/Half Marathon/5K. The race is on Saturday, April 18th and the half and full marathons start at 7am. I'm crossing my fingers that the weather holds up. Last year when my sister-in-law, Allison, ran it the weather was perfect and I'm hoping we get the same luck this year. I ran the 5K in 2004 and loved it. The finish line is at the end of the Gateway. There is music, lots of people cheering. It's awesome and I guarantee if you do it, you will have a good time.

As for my half marathon training, I feel ready. I've had a couple really good long runs, met some short term goals, lost some weight and became healthier during this whole process. It's been a win-win situation. I'm already checking my calendar and planning for the next couple races this summer/fall. Thanks for all of your support over these past 9 1/2 months. I'm lucky to have such a great support system. I'm still throwing around the idea of a full marathon (26.2 miles) but don't know if my body is up for the challenge. My head is, for sure, now if I can just get my knees to agree with my head.

Back to the SLC races. Here is the registration link and hopefully we will see you there:

I'm starting to feel a bit sick about the whole thing. I went running yesterday and I felt like crap. I didn't go very far, either. I hope you have something to keep yourself entertained while you're waiting for me to cross the finish line. I also got a meeting with a trainer, so I'll be nice and sore just in time for the race! ;-)

You'll do great! I'm not going to make it this year for Salt Lake. I've been working out consistently BUT couldn't stomach the treadmill again for 16 weeks of training. I did my first run yesterday and went 6 miles! It was so nice to be outside. Have fun--I can't wait to hear how it went. :)

Good luck!!! I tried getting into running not too long ago but my knees don't like it for some reason, so I'm going to try biking instead. Maybe I'll head up there and we can have a race. You run and I ride my bike. Sound good? ;P

Oh you will do fantastic and you'll have a great time. You've trained well and hard now all that is left is the experience! If you take the step to the marathon distance, I've noticed for me that my cardio system had no problem adjusting. It was my muscles that took awhile to adjust! And of course training for a marathon is time demanding. So in that sense the half marathon is perfect to where it can keep your endurance up there without taxing too much of your time. But I still think that if your knees and time constraints can handle it, then I say you should go for a full at least once just for the experience. Good luck at the half and have fun!

Hi. I saw the comment you left on my blog and didn't know if you'd go back to read it. You look really great as well. I can see a complete transformation in you. Running is great for that! To answer your question, I had some knee problems shortly after I started running seriously. I went all out too soon. I would run every run as hard as I could not realizing the importance of easy runs and I think I increased my mileage too quickly. I didn't see the doctor for it but I think I had "runners knee" just from what I had read about it. So what I did was took a few days completely off from running and then when I started running again, I'd stop immediately after the pain started and gradually it went away. And I also started doing quad and hamstring strengthening exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee. Oh and my sister and aunt were planning on running the Ogden half but it sold out for them as well so it's really not your fault. I don't think anyone was expecting it to sell out that fast. I heard Ogden is a slightly easier course than the SL so you can always go for a PR next year at Ogden.
